The restoration shop’s Christmas party this year celebrated community, dedication, and achievements in aviation. The event recognized volunteers with airplane-shaped ornaments and culminated in a surprise Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award for the curator. This heartfelt recognition emphasized the importance of camaraderie and the sacrifices made in aviation maintenance, leaving a lasting impact.
As Christmas decorations appear early, the restoration shop busily progresses on aviation projects, particularly the B-17 and Huey. A Christmas party is planned, featuring a vintage tree. The team emphasizes community and veteran connections, highlighting the transformative power of restoration in preserving history and fostering shared experiences.

Experiences like Young Eagles and Girls in Aviation Day demonstrate the profound impact of aviation in combating loneliness and burnout, reinforcing community bonds and personal growth through directed effort.
Summer holds two faces: it invites us to appreciate the present while pulling us into projects and adventures that test our endurance. Amidst the labor of love and projects, it's important to make time to slow down, savor the present moment, and recharge. Life's twists and turns remind us to appreciate the journey and find joy in intentional pauses.
A restorer's son provided hangar space for the Chief aircraft. Parts were inspected, some repairable, others needing replacement. Seeing a friend's Champ wings helped envision the Chief's wings. The sorting process revealed Christmas tins holding parts. Despite challenges, the project progresses, rekindling memories and the passion for flight. Uncertain about tail support, the focus remains on reviving the Chief.
Driving into town with the restorer, we could see the Huey flying over town south of the airport and restoration shop. A long-lost airplane, the Chief, becomes a reality as its former owner offers it to the restoration shop. Despite its disrepair, hope sparks when log books and a data plate are confirmed to be intact. With the support of friends and a road trip plan in place, the journey to bring Mama's airplane home begins.
The 10th anniversary of the plant-based Barnstormers event was celebrated with aviation enthusiasts coming together for the annual gathering. The weekend included flights, volunteer activities, early arrivals, happy reunions, and a focus on engaging the next generation. The event's success reaffirms its significance for aviation enthusiasts, leaving lasting memories and connections.
Bill Gates once said, “Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.” The past week was busy with restorations and flying, creating memories and making progress. Despite unexpected challenges, the focus on projects has improved writing comfort and brought a sense of accomplishment.
An aviation museum agreed to sell their shelves to provide a home for combined collections of their museum and our restoration shop. Upon delivery, we began organizing the books using the Library of Congress system. With the help of Peppermint Pam, most books were added, but some require further research. The reading room is now ready for volunteers.
